Man accused of peeping at Edgecombe County gym

Posted April 21, 2013

— The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Sunday who they say secretly recorded customers at a local gym.

Thomas Gray Owens, 29, of 849 Norris Road in Speed, was charged with two counts of secret peeping and was jailed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

Investigators say they received a complaint on Friday about recording devices in tanning booths at B&G Fitness in Tarboro and that additional charges are possible.

B&G Fitness posted a message on its Facebook page Saturday, saying it was cooperating with authorities about "an employee's misconduct while on duty" and that the employee has been fired.

Can some one tell me why this dude has a $100,000 bond while the fellow that has guns on campus at Weslyan College only has a $10,000 unsecured bond. I guess it is better to shoot some one with a gun than with a camera.

I recently joined a gym and am canceling it because I saw the staff allow non-guests in without an escort, who "claimed" to be looking for someone! Well, I guess he might have been...someone to follow, rape, and/or kill. I went by there just to see again to see if they fixed it...but they didn't. They claimed to be SAFE when I joined, that nobody except members got by the front desk. No challenge = no security, and now I learn there was a rape in the parking lot there that they did not bother to disclose. I will just stay fat. Better fat than dead. Yeayeayea...I know.
