halfpint1552 - An autopsy will find ALL injuries. They also need to trace the trajectory of the bullet in case of a trial. They may need to know if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs in case the shooter claims self defense of some sort. By the way........all deaths have autopsies unless they occur in the hospital or in the presence of a doctor.

No they don't 'know' he died from the gunshot. It may not have been fatal. Maybe it triggered a heart attack. Maybe he was going for help and tripped, fell, hit his head on a rock and that killed him. It could make a huge difference in what, if any, charges may be filed. That is why you need an autopsy!!!

You know he died from being shot, so why the autopsy?
