— Raleigh police say a man died Tuesday evening in a traffic accident along the 5500 block of Falls of Neuse Road near Fairfax Drive.

The man was identified as Orlando Luis McKinnon, 21, of Raleigh.

The wreck caused traffic delays for nearly four hours, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The wreck occurred when a vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Stephon McCall Palmer, of Raleigh, traveling about 100 mph on Falls of Neuse Road lost control and crossed the center turning lane striking one car and then spinning out of control into a second car, according to the wreck report.

McKinnon was riding in Palmer's vehicle.

Alcohol and drugs were suspected as a factor in the crash, according to the wreck report. Tests are pending.

WTVD's reporting of this story is much more comprehensive than that of WRAL. I'm wondering why the difference in emphasis between the two stations?

I was right there after impact, its SO sad especially since it was preventable, and the scene you just knew someone was passed away.
But sadly enough the detour road Quail Ridge Rd. I saw kids playing on the side walk, imagine (parents) if you could keep your kids closer to house, off sidewalks without adults there? Just a thought.
And my thoughts go out to all the people involved, it's not fun to watch this happen nor be a part of it.
A 3 yr old child :( at Perry Creek, Durant Rd, & 2 incidents yesterday got hit due to "I have to rush" attitude! Life goes by fast enough don't hurry the process for others because of it.
My heart goes out to all of their families!

I was on the sidewalk heading south on Falls, right in front of St. Raphael. The car passed me heading south REALLY fast; not just 10mph-over-the-speed-limit fast. So fast that I paused and thought, man that's fast. At the scene it never occurred to me that someone was in the passenger seat. That car was totally collapsed on that side. The woman in the KIA heading north is lucky to be alive. There are at least a hundred business cards from the speeding driver still littering the sides of the road.

Just wit till the New Moon, I hear the rate of angsty adolescents crashing dirtbikes rises. Please get that.

I guess they will find out he was beaten by his parents and then it will all be OK

Murder 1... Next.. No reason to be doing 100MPH.. even on a Interstate.

I feel sympathy for the family of the young man who was killed. He was a victim in the matter. It sounds as if the driver was seriously injured too. What boggles the mind is the driving of the driver. Why would you go 30 miles over the speed limit you would drive on an interstate? It really angers me. What must we do to decrease the reckless driving around here?

I work near an interection in the city. It is on a street just off of Hillsborough St. All day cars turn onto the side street that runs beside my office and within 15 feet of turning, they are already speeding! This is about about 1 block from an elemetary school! I'm not sure what these poeple tell themselves? How can you justify driving so recklessly? I just don't get it.

We live right behind Friendship Christian Church and saw the aftermath. We knew someone had died because the vehicle was covered with a tarp.
