Lynda Loveland: The in-laws are coming! Permanently!

I know what you’re thinking. Bless her heart. Am I right?

While that may be the case for a lot of people, that’s not the case here. I’m one of those wives who is fortunate to have in-laws I truly enjoy! We get along incredibly well. They’re considerate, compassionate and very loving. They’re making the move from Virginia to be closer to us. OK, closer to the grandkids and then us.

When I found out they were coming down, I was thrilled for two reasons. Can you say date night? But that’s secondary.

The most important thing is having family close. I didn’t think about it that much before, but now that I have kids, I realize it’s vital. I want my children to grow up knowing their grandparents well. I want them to know stories about their childhood and their adult life. I didn’t really get that opportunity and I regret it. Kids can learn so much from their grandparents. I’m very excited about this new chapter.

Now, if I can just get my parents to move from Missouri …

I was blessed with 2 grandmothers, 2 grandfathers and 4 great-grandmothers growing up. They all lived close by and I truly knew them and all their stories, baked with them, crafted with them and my grampa taught me to make paper airplanes. The older I get the more I realize how fortunate I was to be so close to them. Glad your children's grandparents are going to be closer and work on your parents :)

We had one of our kids move back into the area with his family after 3-1/2 years of living in another state. We LOVE having the grandkids only 40 minutes away now instead of a 14hr. drive. Spending that special time has been a joy.
