Lumberton man to renovate kitchen, take vacation with lottery prize

Posted April 12, 2013

— A construction supervisor from Lumberton claimed the last of five $100,000 prizes Friday in the Super Lucky 7’s scratch-off game, lottery officials said.

Charles Byrd and his wife said they plan to use the money to renovate their kitchen and take a vacation.

Byrd scratched off the ticket at the Minuteman Food Mart on East Fifth Street in Lumberton.

“I started scratching it and I had to sit down right there on the ice cream counter,” Byrd said in a statement. “It took me a few minutes to register that I actually won it. Once I calmed myself down, I signed it and said, ‘I won $100,000.’”

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Byrd received a check for $68,000.
