Lumberton man, 89, charged with sex assault

Posted August 13, 2010

— A Lumberton man faces a sex assault charge for a crime against a 12-year-old girl, a spokeswoman for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

William Herlson Knight, 89, of 117 Summer Lane, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-degree sexual offense, according to Lt. Kathy Torre of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed on house arrest.

Torre said the alleged assault occurred March 28, and the child immediately told her mother, but it took time to conduct the investigation before Knight's arrest.

Paents need to be more careful who their child is around and watch them. Even if it is family. Take the time and be responsible for your child. Once the damage is done, it is with the child for life. Do more to protect your child. Teach your child about these kind of molester and never talk to strangers.

Wow, lots of pitchforks and torches here.

If he did do it, then absolutely lock him up for the remaining few years of his life.

However, NOBODY on here is even considering the possibility that the girl is lying.

I agree that there is more to the story than we're hearing.
