— A man and a 12-year-old boy are charged in the shooting death of a Lumberton man, police said.

Michael Chuang, 39, died after being shot at the intersection of Clewis Street and Muller Drive around 10 p.m. on March 19, Lumberton police Lt. Johnny Barnes said. Chuang was in the midst of an argument stemming from a long-standing dispute with his neighbors, Barnes said.

Chuang's 15-year-old son was also shot. He was treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Jimmy Douglas Tilley, 31, of 211 E Ave., was arrested at his home Thursday afternoon. He is charged with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police sad.

The 12-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was taken into custody by juvenile authorities. Barnes said two teen boys – a 14-year-old and 15-year-old – were also arrested in the shooting death. Their names were not released.

The boys are charged with the same crimes as Tilley, except for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Barnes said the 12-year-old boy and Tilley were friends.

Another case of sorrow. This an adult who should have been teachng this child good things. Instead he taught him how to murder. May the judge and the courts show the man and boy their consequences.

WELL THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU JUST LET YOUR KIDS DO AS THEY PLEASE WITH NO CONSIQUISES. WE TELL THEM POOR BABY JUST GO AND BEHAVE YOURSELF. YOU CANNOT MAKE THEM MIND ANYMORE FOR THE THREAT OF SOCIAL SERVICES JUMPING DOWN YOUR THROAT, BECAUSE OF A LIE THEY TOLD. SO I HOPE PEOPLE ARE HAPPY NOW. IN THE PAST A KID WAS SCARED TO GET IN TROUBLE, NOW THEY JUST LAUGH IN YOUR FACE AND SAY YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT......

    Why?

"This is why folks from other parts of the country think what they do about southerners."

What an ignorant statement. You don't think this type of thing happens in the north or elsewhere in the country? Please. How many 10-12 yr olds follow around 20,25,30 yr old THUGS because they think they're cool being in a gang?? My guess would be more than any of us would like to think.

What is the rest of the story?

"What do a 31 year old and a 12 year old have in common that they should be friends?..."

Normally nothing, but in this case I would guess that they were at the same stage of mental development.

Numerous people arrested. Details of what actually happened is sketchy at best. No matter the details, just another example of poor parenting that is filling our world with tons of unprepared youth.

This was Lumberton, the same town where the Middle School Principal was shot with a shot gun while driving to school. Doesn't sound like his case will ever be solved.

The gun did not kill anyone, it was the dumb 31 and 12 year old that did the killing.
