Lowes Foods announced Thursday it will close two stores in the Triangle and offer the employees jobs at other locations in the area.

Stores at 1961 High House Road in the Cornerstone Village shopping center in Cary and at 2900 East Millbrook Road in Capitol Crossing shopping center in Raleigh will close Sept. 14, the company said in a statement.

Merchandise at the store will be progressively discounted, starting Friday.

Food Lion said Wednesday it was closing its store at 4215 University Drive in Durham by the end of the month. The owner of the shopping center, where a Kmart closed earlier this year, is not renewing the lease.
