With the dinner, dessert and more desserts, it's easy to see why people average an extra pound or two after the holidays.

If you're hosting a party help your guests with some lower-calorie appetizers.

For the hosts out there, Consumer Reports’ food experts checked out 72 heat-and-eat hors d’oeuvres asking a few questions: Were they tasty? Better for you? Worth the price?

“Our top eight picks were about 50 calories or less," said Consumer Reports' Ellen Klosz. "So, your guests can eat about ten and still stick to their diet.”

Some of the best carried even fewer calories.

Trader Joe’s Chicken Gyoza Potstickers were just 29 calories each. Tasters noted the moist filling of chicken, cabbage, garlic and ginger.

A pair of flaky treats from Saffron Road—Saag Paneer and Vegetable Samosas—got high marks for their crispy phyllo outsides and tasty veggie insides. Both have around 45 calories each.

A bargain at just 18 cents per piece, SeaPak’s Butterfly Shrimp is a crunchy breaded snack with a soft shrimp inside.

Consumer Reports' top eight picks for both nutrition and taste all had 45 calories or fewer:
