RALEIGH, N.C. — The spring-like weather we woke up to Monday will be short-lived, but don't get too disappointed -- according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, after a brief drop in temperatures, the balmy weather will return for the remainder of the work week.

Temperatures were in the mid 60s on Monday morning, but Gardner said they won't last long. "It's been a fairly mild weekend, but that comes to an end this morning when a cold front moves in," said Gardner. According to Gardner, temperatures will actually drop as the day goes on, lowering into the 50s by lunchtime and the 40s by nighttime.

Overnight, temperatures could drop into the upper 30s, and Tuesday will be much cooler than Monday, with highs in the 40s.

Along with the cool down will be rain, which could be light but persistent for most of Monday before tapering off overnight. According to Gardner, Tuesday will be rainy as well, but not as wet as Monday.

By Wednesday, the weather tells a different story, and it's a good one. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and though skies will be partly cloudy and overcast at times, rain is not expected to be an issue.

Gardner said temperatures will fall again for the weekend, but harsh, winter-like weather won't be back for awhile.
