Looking for food pantries for database: Where do you donate?

Posted October 28, 2013

We are putting together a database of places for Smart Shoppers to donate food and non-food essentials this holiday season and throughout the year. I hope this list will also be a good resource for those in need looking for a place to find donations.

Please post below if you know of any food banks, churches or other organizations that accept donations here in the Triangle and surrounding areas.  If you have a phone number, address or e-mail address for the location, please post it as well.

Here are some of the more well-known locations I already have on the list. Let's make this a fantastic resource for those looking to donate and for those seeking donations!

Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, located in multiple area communities including Raleigh and Durham

Salvation Army, located in multiple area communities including Raleigh and Durham

United Way, located in multiple area communities

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Raleigh

North Raleigh Ministries, Raleigh

Catholic Parish Outreach, Raleigh

Urban Ministries of Wake County, Raleigh

Clayton Area Ministries, Clayton

The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC), Carrboro

Holiday food drives from Lowes Foods (starts November 1) and Harris Teeter (starts November 1)

There are a number of additional food pantries listed on that I will be looking into as well.

Thank you for your help with this project! We hope to have the database up and running by mid-November.

The Knightdale Church Alliance Food Pantry..aka The Knightdale Food Pantry. It's hosted by Knightdale United Methodist Church. They provide 40 bags of food into local schools weekly and 30 bags of food weekly to the food insecure in our area. The Knightdale Food Pantry almost closed this summer due to lack of contributions, but with a lot of hard work and perseverance are able to stay open one day a week and provide to the schools. The goal is to get back to being open two days a week, but can't do it alone. Please consider adding/donating to The Knightdale Food Pantry @ Knightdale United Methodist Church, 7071 Forestville Rd, Knightdale, NC 27545..(919)266-2373.

You have all stepped up and really shared an amazing amount of great resources. There are so many I was not familiar with and I am so happy to see all of these options all over the area.

Thank you again for sharing such valuable information!

Fuquay Varina United Methodist Church at 100 S. Judd Parkway has several. Every 3 or so months is a free clothes giveaway. The next clothes give away is this Saturday Nov.2nd from 8:00-10:00am. There are 2 sheds in the back parking lot to put clothes anytime. We also do a free meal and deliver it to appox. 350 people on the 3rd Saturday of every month. On Thanksgiving day we prepare food for appox. 500 people. You can eat lunch at the church or we will deliver it. Donated food is always needed. Four times a year we host Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (which are homeless families) we can always use toiletry items for these families. That is a few of the ministries that could use donations.

The Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR) 3032 Ligon Street in Raleigh by ES King Village has a food pantry that serves people of all faiths. There is a large need in that area, so donations are appreciated.

Wow! So many places to choose from that I never even knew existed. I tend to just take everything to the Food Bank of NC in Raleigh since I pass it on my way to and from work each day. I take non-perishable food, personal care items, and pet items.

I also donate about once a month to the military overseas through various groups. This month it was my life insurance company gathering food and personal care products and fun items to send to the troops in Afghanistan for Thanksgiving.
