The North Carolina Science Festival, which celebrates all things science in North Carolina, continues its month-long run with free events and activities for all ages.

And, this weekend, organizers have lined up Statewide Star Parties across North Carolina, giving the public a chance to really study the night sky with the help of telescopes and astronomy experts.

This year is the sixth annual Statewide Star Party. Nearly 40 sites, including local parks, universities, science centers and other venues, will host these free events. About 4,000 visitors and 200 experts are expected to participate, according to the science festival's website.

The theme for this year, according to the science festival's website, is "Anyone Out There?"

Friday, April 20, Statewide Star Parties

Apex: American Tobacco Trail, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Cary: Fred G. Bond Metro Park Boathouse, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Chapel Hill: Pritchard Park, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Durham: Old-North Durham Park, 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Raleigh: Prairie Ridge Ecostation, 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Raleigh: Wilkerson Nature Preserve, 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 21, Statewide Star Parties

Garner: White Deer Park, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
