Raleigh, N.C. — Locopops, the gourmet frozen treat-maker based in Durham, plans to close retail outlets in Raleigh, on Hillsborough Street, and in Chapel Hill, on Elliott Road, at the end of the month.
That doesn't mean the pops are going away. In an email to customers Sunday, Locopops said the change was prompted by buyer behavior.
"Customer feedback tells me that folks increasingly want to enjoy Locopops during festivals, farmers markets, ball games, etc. And they want the convenience of grabbing a pop or pint while they're shopping for other items or getting a coffee," the email read.
The retail store at 2604A Hillsborough Road in Durham will remain open daily from noon to 9 p.m. The last day for the other locations is Oct. 27, when stores will close at 7 p.m. or when supplies run out.
Locopops will continue to be available at dozens of small grocers and other specialty stores around the Triangle, including Saxapahaw General Store, Foster's Market, Pullen Place Café at Pullen Park, NOFO at the Pig, and the Q Shack at North Hills.
With the free time and resources, Locopos will go on the road. "The closures allow us to have carts and kiosks at events and popular venues," the email said.
