After thousands of votes, the winners of the 2016 WRAL Out and About Voters' Choice Awards were announced Tuesday night at an event at Sitti in downtown Raleigh.
Angus Barn and The Pit picked up top honors in three categories. Angus Barn was honored in the best steak, best special occasion restaurant (which they also won last year) and best wine selection. The Pit took home awards for best eastern barbecue, best ribs (two awards they also won last year) and best western barbecue.
Other multiple honorees included Irregardless Cafe, which received top honors for best gluten-free menu and vegetarian menu again this year, and Neomonde, which picked up wins in the best deli and best international cuisine categories. Carolina Ale House was named the best place to watch a game and honored for best wings.
Tuesday night's event featured Mediterranean cuisine from Sitti and entertainment from DJ Forge and local cirque hoop dancers.
The 2016 Out and About Voters' Choice Awards were presented by Performance Subaru.
How were winners selected?
Following a nomination period, readers had just over a month to vote for their favorites in categories like best pizza and best place to watch a game. New lifestyle categories and an expanded nightlife section allowed for event more businesses to get involved.
The final ballot features five finalists, which were selected based on the number of nominations they received. Write-in options were also accepted on the final ballot.
The top three vote-getters in each category were recognized at Tuesday's ceremony.
