Local pastor asking for prayers after niece shot in Vegas

"My brother texted me this morning asking for prayers for his daughter - Danae. He told us she had been shot. My wife and I immediately began praying, then called him on the phone. We then turned on the t.v. and saw a little bit about what was going on. At that point, they only knew of two that had been killed and said about 20 others had been injured," said Pastor Gibbs.

The death toll now up to 59, and more than 520 injured.

Danae Gibbs, 23, is a recent Texas Tech University grad and was among the thousands listening to Jason Aldean sing his last set when the shots rang out. It's unclear where she was at the time of the shooting, but her uncle says she was hit by one bullet.

"Apparently she was laying on her back when the bullet struck her in the hip and apparently glanced up into her stomach cavity. She has been through surgery. Has come out good. She is in good spirits. In pain mostly because of the surgery," said Gibbs.

As the worst of mankind pulled the trigger, the best of mankind stepped up to help the wounded.

"Somebody came along in a pickup truck and was taking my niece as well as some other wounded people -- they just put her in the bed of the truck and carried her to the emergency room," said Gibbs.

While Pastor Gibbs prayers were answered and Danae now recovering -- he says it's heartbreaking for the lives that were lost and the families left to grieve.

"Somebody's prayers have been answered. Even when I say that though - I'm aware of the fact that there are 59 other people who are not going home... Kids that are not going back to their parents and funerals that are going to have to be planned. Our prayers are for those families as well," said Gibbs.

According to her uncle, the bullet is close to Danae's spine. At this time, doctors have decided not to remove it and keep her under observation for 48 hours before they decide when to release her.
