Local jewelry designer is one of Oprah's favorite things

Posted November 12, 2014

A look at Moon and Lola's downtown Raleigh store.

— We aren't the only ones who love Moon and Lola jewelry. Oprah Winfrey has released her "Favorite Things Holiday Gift Guide" and it features items from Moon and Lola designer Kelly Shatat!

"It's a dream come true," the Raleigh native and UNC Chapel Hill grad said in a statement following the announcement.

Moon and Lola, which Shatat started in 2003, is best known for its monogrammed and personalized accessories, including her signature acrylic monogram necklaces.

Moon and Lola's monogrammed Vineyard Cuff Links, which retail for $68, are featured on Oprah's list which appears in the new issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. You can also see the entire list online.

"As a frequent white-shirt wearer, I like anything that jazzes up a button-down. And these elegant cuff links, customizable in 32 colors, two fonts, and a gold or silver monogram and bezel, do the trick," Winfrey writes about the cuff links.

Moon and Lola has stores in Raleigh and Apex.

I don't particularly care about Oprah or her favorite things, but I'm glad this local artist got the shout out and hope her business picks up tremendously because of it.

If she's not racist, then I'm not either.

There are some awfully bitter people commenting on someone else's success. Bitter, pure bitterness. May you find yourselves deprived of any kind of happiness from this day forward. Any kind!

"So supporting the local merchants instead of shopping at Wally World or Target is your best option right?"

Let's face it. It doesn't always help to have a celebrity endorse your product. Some people REALLY dislike Oprah. This endorsement will turn some shoppers away. Just because this person won't shop at this particular store doesn't mean they won't shop at some other locally owned shop. But the few locals who won't shop here because of this list probably won't be missed as there are probably lots of others across the country who now know about this shop and will take up any slack.

now i know where NOT to shop.

If Oprah likes it, there must be something very wrong with it, very very wrong, and most likely very racist
