Tips to avoid Halloween weight gain

Some local dentists and orthodontists will participate in a national program next week to buy back kids' Halloween candy to send it to troops overseas.

They'll be giving out $1 per pound of candy donated or goody bags with coupons and other treats in exchange for Halloween loot.

You can search for local dentist and orthodontics offices on the national website for the Halloween Candy Buy Back program to find one near you.

I just called a handful of the offices listed and have found that several on the list will not be participating in the program this year. Others will only be accepting candy from current patients. And others, including Gladwell Orthodontics in Wake Forest, will be taking candy from the general public.

So, check the list on the Halloween Candy Buy Back website, to find an office near you that's taking candy. But be sure to call ahead to find out if they are participating and when.
