RALEIGH, N.C. — After Julie Powsner, an employee of AdPro Printing & Promotional Products in Raleigh, saw a report about donated school supplies being stolen from a local charity, she was moved. But Powsner didn't simply write a check.

"Instead of just dropping off a personal donation, I thought I would also try to leverage the help of our vast network of suppliers to multiply our efforts," she said.

Powsner and her AdPro colleagues were able to gather thousands of dollars worth of backpacks, calculators, pens, pencils, notebooks and more for Helping Hand Mission. The Wake County charity had lost 65 backpacks full of supplies to theft last week, just before a back-to-school giveaway.

"In all the years I have been in this industry, I have never seen this level of response," Powsner said.

Helping Hand's Sylvia Wiggins called the AdPro donors "angels."

"We are so grateful to them and everyone else in our community who has come forward to help," she said, noting that other area businesses had also stepped up.
