Best bets for live music this week in the Triangle

— It's almost the weekend, which means it's time to head to your favorite music venue and listen to great tunes. Here's a rundown of shows happening this week:


Alan Evans Trio at The Pour House – Hard driving rhythm and blues solos.

Diali Cissokho and Kaira Ba at Tir na nOg for Local Band Local Beer – Lively and fun west African dance music.

Kim Richey, The Small Ponds at The Pinhook – Two-time Grammy-nominated artist whose songs are full of emotion.

Los Vigilantes and Las Ardillas, Black Zinfandel at Slim's – Spanish pop and garage rock.


Dirty Bourbon River Show at Local 506 – New Orleans jams mixed with American roots music, jazz, rock and blues.

Birds of Avalon with Airstrip at The Pinhook – A progressive rock band from the Triangle.

Fontana, Quiet Stars, Le Weekend at Motorco – A unique blend of punk, jazz and rock.


The Snails and The Lollipops at Kings Barcade – Hailed as "Baltimore's answer to the California Raisins." The band has just released a new album. merlefest

Local Music Benefit for Interact at The Pour House – A night of fun and music from several bands. There will also be an auction for several great prizes.

Celtic Woman at DPAC – The global music phenomenon performs pop anthems, timeless songs and classic Irish tunes.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band at PNC Arena – Heartland rock from the 70s.


Gorilla Music's Battle of the Bands at The Pour House – Watch local bands duke it out on stage.

The Mean Season at Slim's – Indie rock trio from Washington, D.C. merlefest Merlefest 2012

Also, Merlefest will be held Thursday through Sunday at Wilkes Community College. The music festival celebrates the life of Eddy Merle Watson, son of American music legend Doc Watson. You'll hear music from the American folk, bluegrass, roots and rock and Americana genres.
