Posted November 13, 2009

— The Halifax County Sheriff's Office has charged a Littleton man with trying to strangle another man in October.

Deputies said that Edward Kinta Settles got into an altercation with Frank Mills at a local pool hall and then a physical fight later in the day. Settles grabbed Mills by the neck until he passed out, deputies said.

Settle was charged with one count of felony strangulation. He was placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond. His first court date was set for Dec. 2.

This is garbage. A felony? Give me a break. He choked him unconscious so he wouldn't have to beat him to sleep. Charge them both with simple assault and stop there.

All is fair in a fight he just ended it without someone getting really hurt or killed

Attempted murder? It depends I suppose. They can always add additional charges later...

Shouldn't these charges really be attempted murder?
