Listen to Your Mother, the series of local shows featuring live readings about motherhood, is seeking submissions for the 2014 Triangle show.
This will be the second Listen to Your Mother here. Local moms and bloggers Marty Long and Keanne Hoeg are back again to organize the program.
Last year's event at William Peace University in downtown Raleigh featured 15 local writers. Not all were moms. There was a father and a woman with no children who spoke about her mother. Some stories were poignant. Others were hilarious. You can watch all of the readings, including those held in other cities, on Listen to Your Mother's YouTube channel.
Here's what Long and Hoeg are seeking as they make plans for the 2014 show: "We’re looking for Raleigh-Durham area writers to read their original essays on motherhood, be they funny, heartbreaking, triumphant, poignant or thoughtful. While you don’t have to be a blogger, mother or heck, even a woman to submit, the theme of your piece must be about motherhood."
Pieces, which should take no longer than 3 to 5 minutes to read out loud, are due by Jan. 31. Auditions will be held in mid-February for selected pieces. The show will be in May.
