It is sad to hear about this small child I feel for his family and I pity all you self sbsorbed people who have nothing better to do than to get on this news thread and argue about things.

Plenty of people ride on the sidewalks, because the roads aren't safe. To me the rule seems more fit for those people who ride bikes to work, etc., not people riding around their neighborhood.

However, no matter what it's a terrible situation for the family.

You are incorrect. Bicycles are considered vehicles, and bicyclists are ordered to ride upon streets, facing the same direction as traffic, and upheld to all the same laws as people driving cars.

Sigh that is correct. However I want the cops to come tell me my kid can't ride on the side walks. They are not allowed to ride anywhere else.

well, whatever - frankly, it doesn't really matter to me either way - I think riding a bike on any street where there are cars, etc. is dangerous - just my opinion and I pray that this family can find comfort in their loss and please people, watch your children!

"no, it's not "illegal" to ride your bike on the sidewalk here in NC"

You are incorrect. Bicycles are considered vehicles, and bicyclists are ordered to ride upon streets, facing the same direction as traffic, and upheld to all the same laws as people driving cars. Might want to read up in your NC DMV book....
