Lightning strike causes Raleigh apartment fire

— A fire that started because of lightning damaged 16 units of a Raleigh apartment complex Tuesday afternoon, Raleigh fire officials said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, but 19 people were displaced from the apartment complex at 3216 Calumet Drive.

Fire crews responded to the complex about 3:30 p.m., and it took 50 firefighters nearly an hour to control the flames.

    Pretty sure this happened off New bern Avenue. Was leaving Wake Tech at that time and saw around 10 firetrucks and multiple vehicles hauling rear over there. Lots of smoke in the pouring rain which just added to the overall carpiness of driving in that part of town.
