Lenoir church preserves witches' keyhole

When George Powell's log cabin burned to the ground in the 19th century, he blamed it on witches and evil spirits trapped inside. So, when he built another house on the grounds, he equipped it with a keyhole near the roof to let the witches and spirits escape. The house stood from 1820 until the 1970s when a church took its place. The Trinity United Methodist Church preserved the keyhole, which remains on the grounds to this day.
