Raleigh family reels in YouTube hits with shark clash video
A Raleigh family of seasoned fishermen reeled in a huge catch while on vacation last week in South Carolina, but it wasn't a fish. They caught incredible video footage of a close encounter with a bull shark.
Posted — Updated"Everyone's got a fish tale – when someone tells you the fish is 'this big,' but he's exaggerating," said Will Moore. "There's always a fish tale. At least we got ours on camera."
Moore was in Myrtle Beach with his fiancé, Sarah Brame, and her family, when the 200-pound animal leaped toward them on the pier, snatching a fish off Brame's line.
"I saw the pole go off, so I thought, 'Let me catch a fish,'" Brame said. "I caught something a whole lot bigger than I expected."
"It's scary – that joker being three feet from you," Moore said.
Scared, but not deterred, the fishing family piled into a boat and went looking for the shark.
"Anything (you catch that's) big, just smack him and let him go," said Brame's father, Van Hughes. "Say, 'Gotcha.'"
Hughes suffered a heart attack just weeks before the family's vacation, but didn't let that keep him from the adrenaline rush of a shark chase.
They followed the animal for several minutes, but never got a clear camera shot of him.
Though the shark encounter was exciting, Moore says he has already lured in the loveliest fish in the sea – his fiancée.
"This one ain't getting away," he said. "This one is mine."
"You better keep some good bait on that hook," Brame joked.
The couple plans to incorporate a fishing theme into their wedding.
