Mars Hill

The college named after this Madison County town is the oldest one in western North Carolina. It draws its name from Chapter 17 of the Biblical book of Acts and has a population of 1,764.

Jupiter

This crossroads community lies between Marshall and Weaverville in northern Buncombe County. It was incorporated in 1895.

Comet

This unincorporated community lies in north-central Ashe County. It's northwest of Jefferson and is a neighbor of Virginia and Tennessee.

Star

This Montgomery County town of 807 people is at the exact geographic center of North Carolina. Its high elevation gave it its name. 

Rockett

This northeast Catawba County town was originally called Roseman, but it's now named for a local family. The town was established in 1886.
