The Polar Express runs along the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Last year, 30,000 people hopped aboard for hot cocoa and a special treat. The Polar Express runs until Dec. 24, 2011.
The Jingle Bell Express offers ornament making and cookie and coca with Santa at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
Model trains and Carolina geography are the stars of the Carolina Wonderland Express at the Museum of Life & Sciences. The train runs through Jan. 15, 2012.
For one four-day weekend, the Holiday Express train, captained by Santa Claus, runs through Pullen Park. The event was sold out in 2011.
Santa visits passengers on the annual Polar Express that runs through Selma one day a year. It was sold out in 2011.
