White granite: you'll find it all over the country, but especially in Mount Airy. The Surry County town is home to the largest open-faced granite quarry in the world. The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kitty Hawk were both built with stone from the quarry.
