June 4, 2012 :: Cary man's remains launched into space
Tom Martin was the chief test conductor for the Apollo space mission in the 1960s before moving his family to Cary. He died in 2005. Last month, a vial of his ashes was sent into space to orbit the earth in a history-making rocket launch.
