Favorite New Restaurant

Posted August 15, 2011

What is your favorite new restaurant and why?   What makes it stand apart?

Never underestimate small shopping centers for excellent restaurants. I visited a little restaurant over the weekend in Cary at Ten Ten Road and Kildaire Farm Road and encountered my first glowing menu. Chef's Palette features LED battery-powered menus. They come in handy in a romantic candlelight atmosphere. I also enjoyed the battery powered pepper grinder at this restaurant which features American, Creole, Cajun and Southern cuisines.

High tech splash aside, the restaurant served up some great food. Everything we had from warm jumbo lump crab dip to the house salad to Risotto Ricochet to Symmetrical Shrimp & Grits to after dinner coffee was exceptional. And the place was packed. Even Greg Fishel was there. You know you're going to have good seafood when the Fish shows up.

Any other new restaurants that we should be checking out in coming weeks?

Neely D is in the 1800 block of hwy 127 and the green tomato sandwich is a BLT. If that doesn't fill you up try the hush puppies with BBQ plate.

In Hickory there's a new one called Neely D on hwy 127. Eastern NC style BBQ but their fried green tomato sandwiches must be tried!

Try Stromboli's on Edwards Mill Road just past Walgreens. Great Italian food.

The restaurant is not new but my favorite is The Pilot House in Wilmington.

Virlie's Grill in Pittsboro. Not a new restaurant but new to the Terry family. Friday Night Specials make it worth the drive.

It's not new but St. Jacques is easily the best restaurant in the area. Try the Duck.

Genki Sushi in that same shopping center is also excellent. The fish is always fresh, and they have house made ginger dressing that is the best I've had. We go once a week and we are never dissapointed.

Great topic, Bill!! We haven't tried any new restaurants in a long time -- we need some new choices.
