Best baseball experience

What is your favorite place to watch a baseball game? I ask this question because we are getting ready to feature North Carolina's top baseball towns in our Hometown Hello segment on the morning news.

Where do you enjoy watching a game? What about the atmosphere, the team and the ball park cuisine makes it a special place?

I love watching the Durham Bulls at the DBAP. The stadium is gorgeous and the atmosphere is vibrant. There's always a big-time feel out there. That's my favorite place to watch a game.

Locally, we like the DBAP, although it has lost a little of its charm as they build up around the outfield. The food quality has also dropped over the last 3-4 years. Still good, cheap (if you don't drink) entertainment. Nationally, I love Camden Yard in Baltimore. It was 102 degrees at game time Saturday when we were there. Only other complaint is, no cup holders!

Once had the opportunity to watch the Red Sox play in Fenway Park. We sat behind 3rd base and it was a great experience. This was back when there was no advertising allowed inside Fenway, only a sign for the Jimmy Fund. This was true baseball.

ehringhaus dorm, unc-ch

before they renovated boshamer the fence in front of the parking lot was low

we'd sit on the balcony, watch the games, and warn people not to park there. of course, they didn't listen.

then take bets on which cars would get dinged by home runs

Mdoodle reminds me of a time I was at a meeting in Manhattan and we were near Mickey Mantle's restaurant and it was October ... so we thought it would be fun to go have a drink or two and watch the world series at Mickey Mantle's. The only problem ... that was the day of the SF-Oakland earthquake.

Mdoodle also reminds me of my favorite Gaylord Perry story ... myth or real? I recall it being talked about at the time: http://www.snopes.com/sports/baseball/perry.asp

Five County and the DBAP have always been very enjoyable, but I got to fulfill a dream this April when I watched my Cubbies take on the DBacks at Wrigley Field!

Love the DBAP, but I also enjoy the Mudcats stadium. Their food is good and not too pricey. But my best baseball experience, as your title says, was when I was in college. One of my friends knew that I was a big baseball fan and he was from Williamston and was friends with Gaylord Perry. So he took me to Gaylord's house one Sunday afternoon and I got to watch a National League playoff game with Gaylord in his den!!! What a thrill!!!!!!!!!

My favorite experience was the first official National League game in the Astrodome. Still have a soft spot my my heart for the original dome ... which Houston struggles to figure out whether to preserve or to demolish. While I like the new DBAP, I thoroughly enjoyed the funkiness of the old ballpark. In the 80s, I worked adjacent to the Univ of Texas ballpark and watched many a game there ... including virtually all of Roger Clemens college career. That was a great venue, except in the early season ... those aluminum seats got mighty cold on a late winter day, even in Texas. I kept an array of multiple blankets in the trunk of my car for those early season games.

Bill, I agree on the Durham Bulls. I've been there a few times since retiring and moving away. My second choice is our Hickory Crawdads right here where I live.
