Quintessential quotes

Posted January 27, 2011

I like to start my day with an inspirational quote. Would you like to share one of yours? Please do.

Fitness fanatic Jack Lalanne who died this week once said: "It's better to wear out than to rust out." I love that.

Coach K at Duke once said: "Believe the loose ball you're following has your name on it." That fires me up.

UNC legendary coach Dean Smith made me laugh and think when he said: “If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot.”

And who can forget the verbal volcano named Jim Valvano who said: "To me there are three things everyone should do every day. Number one is laugh. Number two is think – spend some time time in thought. Number three, you should have your emotions move you to tears. If you laugh, think and cry, that's a heck of a day.”

Let’s add some great quotes to our list.

My mom once told me, "Always remember, no one is better or worse than you, based on his or her situation." I think it was her way of saying don't look down or up to a person till you know all about them.

"To thine own self be true . . . " Willie Shakespeare and my Dad. My Dad wrote this in my 6th grade autograph book and I refer to it ALL the time. As I go through the day, I think to myself "Will I be able to look myself in the mirror tonight knowing I did all that I could to make the best of the day?" "Carpe diem" is another I like . . .
