Cardboard for Dinner

Posted December 14, 2010

Weigh day can be a personal mayday during the holiday season. It’s so easy to pack on the pounds. Well, I’d like to give my coach Tara Wind a WRAL High 5. Her 100 Days of Fitness campaign is working! I lost one lb. last week despite a slew of holiday parties and many culinary temptations. I would also like to give a big shout-out to my wife Cindy for helping me eat healthy at home. I know Cindy didn’t particularly like the whole wheat pasta she served with chili last night but I thought it tasted great. Cindy thinks it tastes like cardboard.

I’ve got a new workout today. It’s called the Pyramid. I’ve checked with the Attorney General’s Office and been assured that this pyramid scheme is legal! Here we go:

5 minutes run, bike, stairs
4 minutes run, bike, stairs
3 minutes run, bike, stairs
2 minutes run, bike, stairs
1 minute run, bike, stairs

The sweat begins to flow at 1:30PM. Maybe I’ll treat myself to a smoothie afterward.  Tomorrow - those dreaded intervals!

Some brands of whole wheat pasta do taste bland, but others are just fine. Depends on your taste. I would experiment with a few different brands until you find the one you like best.

Thanks for the question, Kathleen. I run for 5 minutes on a treadmill, pedal five minutes on a stationary bike and then climb for five minutes on a step machine. I do the same sequence of exercises at four minutes each and then three minutes each, two minutes each and one minute each. I just finished today's program and it was a demanding yet excellent workout. The variety prevents boredom.

Yes, I am curious too about how the workout works. Good for you losing a pound over the holidays! Since it's so cold outside knowing that I am going to the gym to get a good sweat to warm up in this cold, cold weather is all the motivation I need!

What exactly do you mean by run, bike, stairs? Five minutes of each, or five minutes of one of them? I am thinking 5 minutes of your choice (or else you have a very long workout!).
Good luck, and congrats on your success so far!

I agree with Cindy, but the angel hair wheat is not bad at all.

no worries mdoodle - you'll love it! Cindy is just a pasta purist.
