Bill Leslie's Carolina Conversations

Emerald Vision

Posted November 23, 2010

I was a little nervous about asking George Karbus to collaborate on a music/photo project. He is a wildlife, water and landscape photographer who has won a slew of international awards. But I needed to find someone whose images would really make an ancient Celtic tune come alive. The song is Calum Sgaire which I learned from my guitar and songwriting mentor Micheal O'Domhnaill of Ireland. It is the eighth track on my new Simple Beauty album.

George graciously accepted my proposal and sent me a series of absolutely stunning photographs of Ireland. I was thrilled to weave these images together with the music and create a new essay for you.

George Karbus lives on the west coast of Ireland. He is a strong enviromentalist: "I try to capture beauties of our fragile world and show everyone the real treasures of life. It is my inspiration for people to live in harmony with nature."

I would love to get your comments on today's music/photo essay.

Soothing, especially on a day that I'm home sick with a cold.

The pictures are perfect and beautiful. The music is lovely and very peaceful. The instruments blend together nicely. I could listen to this kind of music all day.

Oh yeah, My grandparents came from Carrick-On-Suir, Ireland. there is only one phrase I know in Gaelic, but it isn't a nice phrase so I won't print it. LOL When I was younger, my mom would always make green scrambled eggs and green butter on the toast and green milk and green OJ for us kids every St. Patricks Day for breakfast. It was weird but fun. thanks again.

Bill, The photography and best of all the music, brought tears to my eyes. My grandparents came over from Ireland. I miss them. You have a way of making beautiful essays and music. Thank you. I will definitely buy the CD, Simple Beauty, it brings back so many fond memories for me. You are great.
