Bill Leslie's Carolina Conversations

Wild Beauty

Posted November 16, 2010

What is the most wild and scenic place you have ever visited? What was the feeling when you were there?

A stirring of the heart happened when I visited Fiordland on the South Island of New Zealand last year. I felt like Fiordland contained a part of my soul and I needed to explore its wilds to find that special place of connection. I recall how sad I was when I had to leave Milford Sound and head north toward the cities with big airports that would send me home to America.

Graham Dainty doesn’t have to worry about vacations coming to an end. He lives on the edge of Fiordland National Park. This award-winning photographer gets to witness and capture Fiordland's ever changing majesty each day. Graham and I have teamed up for a photo/music essay called Way Down South. It begins with the beguiling voice of bellbirds in the primeval forest of Fiordland.   I would love to get your feedback.

Thank you for the reminder of the beauty of Fiordland. My lovely wife and I were there 25 years ago on our Honeymoon. Maybe someday we will be able to go back again. Wonderful people, beautiful country.

As sure as I live and breathe, I am sure these photographs are the hand prints of my God, Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. NO man could ever make anything as beautiful as this. Thank you Bill & Graham for sharing such beauty!

What beauty!! Absolutely stunning. Too bad New Zealand is on the other side of the world and two days away (or more), by air!! I'd be on my way to see this for myself.

Absolutely mesmerizing !! You truly need to release a set of your photo/music essays on a DVD (or two...).
