Hometown Hello help

Posted August 17, 2010

I get some of my best ideas from people I meet at the post office, grocery store and gym. Special thanks to Tony at the post office on Avent Ferry Road for suggesting a Hometown Hello idea. Tony suggested five towns with royal sounding names including King, Princeton, Knightdale and Jackson Springs. We will salute those communities in the popular week day segment at 7:10AM and 8:10AM on Fox 50.

We like to do themes on Hometown Hello. This week we're doing towns with water parks. Last week we featured towns heavily affected by hurricanes.

What should our next theme be? If your theme is chosen I will send you a CD. I've got a new one coming out soon.

How about towns whose names are so unusual that they could only be pronounced correctly by locals (or North Carolinians in the know!)?

  • dharper22 Aug 17, 2010

My old friend J. D. Lewis has two excellent suggestions.

Obviously, Bill, an easy one would be on towns with the names of trees. Try it.

Another idea is towns with a Civil War connection (fort, battlefield, etc.) since we're coming up on the sesquicentennial.

How about visiting the hometowns of North Carolina's living governors?

Bill, What if you did a hometown hello on some cities that your nephew Matt has passed through on his journey across the country that are also hometowns here for us. I do reminder him passing through Pinehurst somewhere on his way. Are there enough same cities to do this for a week.

How 'bout towns with festivals - Swansboro's "Mullet Festival", Ayden's "Shad Festival", Fairmont's "Farmers Festival", etc.

How about incorporated towns with very small populations? I grew up in a town with mayor, etc., but had fewer than 500 people.

also ask them to add the recipe for their favorite chocolate dessert!! :)

we could do both one time ask for your own favorite chocolate dessert and then another time ask for the restaurants that have the best chocolate desserts!! also another good theme is the best walking trails in and around raleigh!! :)
