Weekend Recommendations

Posted August 13, 2010

What are your weekend recommendations? What’s something fun for you and the family to do this weekend?

I’ll start by suggesting something that will be happening in downtown Raleigh tomorrow. You’ll want to check out the first annual Oak City Art Market from 10:00AM to 4:00PM in the Raleigh City Museum. If you’re not familiar with the museum, it is located in the historic Briggs Hardware Building on Fayetteville Street. Jenny Litzelman with the museum stopped by our studios this week for an interview on the market. She brought lots of colorful and interesting art pieces that will be available to shoppers. There is no charge for admission. You could probably take care of a lot of holiday shopping in one spot here.  Plus, you'll also get to meet a lot of interesting artists.

What else is going on this weekend? What would you recommend?

Go to The Pit in Downtown Raleigh.... for me.. perfectly scrumptious ribs and an ice cold beer ( aaaah)!

Mark Weems and the Cave Dwellers will be doing an outdoor concert at Brightleaf Square in Durham on Saturday evening. Mark is the talented husband of the equally talented Julee Glaub, a Celtic fusion singer.

Head for the mountains....going to be rainy and in the 70's...sounds heavenly after this awful heat and humidity we've endured.

If it doesn't rain I need to get out there and whack down some of that grass that has been overwatered the last several weeks. If we get some time we'll go out and try to do some waymarking and/or a little geocaching. Don't always need some external event to attend.

Go to Water Country, Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion before school starts and this is the last weekend they stay open until 8PM.
