Mock wedding

Have you ever been to a mock wedding? My daughter Lauren was the star of one recently. The real wedding happens in September. But her friends at Green Hope Elementary in Cary wanted to send her off in style with an outdoor ceremony at school. Lauren has worked there as a first grade teacher for three years. But since she's marrying a nomadic Navy man Lauren will be moving to Florida this fall.

Lauren's mock groom was one of her students. A parental assistant served as minister. Each student handed Lauren a handmade tissue paper flower, that when put together - created a beautiful, handmade and colorful bouquet. Also, Lauren said: “I think it's cute to add that my ‘something borrowed and something blue’ were loaned Silly Bandz from several students.” They're all the rage with young kids now. Parents pitched in to decorate the tables with flowers fresh from their garden. . The service included traditional music. And yes, a lot of people cried including my wife Cindy.

Here's how Lauren described the affair: "Since I can't invite all of my favorite first graders and their families to my real wedding, my fabulous assistant and many parent helpers threw a wedding we could ALL be a part of at school!"

So we already have lots of great wedding pictures and videos and the ceremony is still six weeks away.

A friend told me: "Now that's a wedding you can afford!"
