Nomadic nephew

Breaking news on my nomadic nephew.  Matt Green's walk across America has attracted national press coverage including a lengthy story and video from Martha Irvine of the Associated Press. You can follow the link here to see it. Matt is in the 63rd day of his epic journey which began at Rockaway Beach, NY and will end in Rockaway, Oregon.

Yesterday was a big day for Matt. He celebrated his 30th birthday. He’s already made it to Minnesota and logged more than 1,000 miles. His pace is pretty amazing. Earlier this week in 90 degree heat he managed to walk 28 miles in one day.

The national story has resulted in an explosion of comments on his web page. He now has fans all over the country. You would really like Matt. He’s a bright, creative and caring guy with a unique sense of adventure. He’s living a dream and I admire him for doing so. My sister Miriam plans to walk a couple of days with her son next weekend. I can’t wait to hear her report.

Feel free to leave comments for Matt. I’ll be sure to pass them along.

This is amazing that your nephew is doing this, Bill. I had read about him on CNN but did not realize it was your nephew.

I've been reading his website since I saw it mentioned on a while back.....LOVE IT!!! I just think it's great the way he is really looking and appreciating the little things. He's also great at documenting everything so you feel like you're walking right there with him. People have been so wonderful to him along his journey, amazing! I loved on Mother's Day how he thanked all his new mothers he has met along the way; it seems he is definitely leaving his mark on many people and that's wonderful, you should be proud.

Matt said he got like 2000 emails yesterday.

I have been diligently following his trek ever since Bill told us about it and even created a fan page on facebook in support of his effort (with Matt's approval of course). That facebook page's membership more than doubled overnight after that news story aired.

He's 1100+ miles into what is still a long journey to go.
There's also a good TV news report on him from a local LaCrosse WI affiliate WXOW: (tinyurl shrinks down incredibly long urls to something easier to paste).
