Busy weekend

Posted May 3, 2010

How was your weekend?  Did you do anything exciting?  Please share your stories.

My weekend was probably a little too busy but a lot of fun. Friday night I emceed a talent show for Reedy Creek Elementary School in Cary. The kids were terrific, including kindergartner Logan Pearson who sang like an angel in her a capella version of "Over the Rainbow."

The Land of Oz theme continued Saturday night. After shrimp and grits at Crooks Corner, we took in "Wicked" at the DPAC. Wow! What a great production.

Earlier in the day, I lunched with family and celebrated the first communion of Kyra Miller. Congrats Kyra! We're proud of you.

Sunday evening I played songs and told stories at Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest. What a warm and wonderful congregation! It felt like an evening in Lake Wobegon. Those Lutherans sure are nice people. I even had a chance to reconnect with some former neighbors, the Rasmussens, and meet a man who grew up in Morganton and remembers my family's store. Special thanks to Pastor Wagner, Rick Hall and chef Chris Duke.

To Happy: Marianna seemed to be nice but definitely not much to do for entertainment. Of course, being only an hour from the gulf had to be nice!

Hi Bill - I too saw Wicked this weekend, but was able to see it in San Francisco. What an awesome show. I had a surprise mother/daughter weekend for my daughter and this was part of the trip. I'm so glad we saw it.

After spending Friday evening at a little place in Clayton listening to a friend's band play, we went to the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame benefit in Cary on Saturday. What an awesome show...Atlanta Rhythm Section, Georgia Satellites, White Sox All-Stars, Cheap Trick, Dave Mason. 6 hours of music on a beautiful day in a beautiful setting. Great time!!

Saturday we did yard work and cleaned my deck. Sunday we had friends over for dinner (not on the deck, though - too hot!). A usual weekend. I wanted to go see Schola Cantorum perform but had the dinner plans already. Maybe next time :-)

Gloemae - My dad's entire family is from Marianna, FL! It's where I spent all my summer's growing up. Feel sorry for me now?

since it was so hot this past weekend I set up the sprinkler in the backyard and me and my daughters cooled off. It was a great way to have fun with my children.

  • maoneal19 May 3, 2010 wife and I took in Wicked at the DPAC as well with her parents, grandmother sister, and brother-in-law. I'm not much for musicals overall, but it was a great production! That was my first trip to the DPAC and I was VERY impressed...what a great asset for Durham. Besides that it was a pretty low key weekend, which are much appreciated as life seems to get busier and busier as time passes...

My wife and I took a new recliner to a friend in Clyde, NC. Spent some quality time with them. He works part time as a starter/ranger at the Waynesville Country Club. He took me on a golf cart tour of the course while my wife and his sat on the porch at the country club and watched the golfers tee off on the Carolina and Blue Ridge 1st tees. Came back Sunday night.
