Nominate a neighbor

Posted April 22, 2010

Nominate a neighbor who has made your area a more beautiful place. I’ll take all of the nominations and put them in a hat.  We'll pick a winner tomorrow and send them a prize.

I’d like to send a prize to some neighbors I don’t even know. I looked up their names this morning. John and Linda Corcoran have done an incredible landscaping job on the backside of their property in Lochmere. It is something Rufus and I enjoy every day when we take our walk on the trails of the Highlands neighborhood. The flowers, the terracing, the plants, the furniture and general whimsical nature of the landscaping are impeccable and a feast for the eyes.

What about your neighborhood?   Who are the landscaping heroes?

Tomorrow we will announce the winner. We will also announce the winner of the best bumper sticker contest.

I would like to nominate my neighbors, Bob and Carolyn Critcher of Oxford, N.C. They have one of the most beautiful yards around our neighborhood. They have a yard which is about two acres plus a beautiful pond which attract geese year round. They work their yard adding new plants constantly. Their flowers are lovely and the grass is so green and plush it makes you want to take off your shoes and run in it. Bob is a detective with the Granville County Sheriff's office and spends endless days and nights on a case but you would never know it by looking at this picture perfect yard. Their landscaping, their many flowering plants and their year round beautifull yard makes everyone who passes by it have a smile. Thanks Bob and Carolyn.

I'd like to nominate Jon & Jenny Flaherty of Apex. Their yard is gorgeous and they're always at work on it. I think Jon mows twice an week and in fall he blows leaves at least that often. And if a neighbor needs help, he'll mow or blow their yard, too! Everyone appreciates the Flaherty's beautiful yard during walks.

I would like to nominate my neighbors Jason & Kelly Harrelson. They moved into the house across the street and had a mess on their hands. Since they've moved in they've stained their porches and deck, fenced the yard, fertilized the lawn to a now plush green and planted numerous trees and plants. What used to be an eyesore is now something that I enjoy looking out of my front door and seeing!

I would like to nominate by neighbors Wes and Connie Smith. After several home renovations and some not so expected repairs, their landscaping was destroyed and both their front and back yards became eyesores. They both work full time and are raising a family so their time is limited. Yet they have carved out time here and there when they could and worked extremely hard to get it back to a beautiful and inviting space. Their efforts are appreciated by our other cul-de-sac neighbors and deserve to be recognized.

I want to nominate our neighbors, Jay and Cindy Herring. They took the piece of land here in Meadow and made it a beautiful "mini ranch". They took a bad looking landscape and made it into a very nice horse pasture for their horses and their yard has lots of pretty flowers, trees and bushes. They also have a koi pond in the yard - if they can keep the owls and hawks out of it! They also have a sheep they saved from slaughter(he has 3 legs), chickens of all kinds, ducks, two calves(one has a heart shaped patch on her forhead!), and some baby pigs! Yeah,I know that doesnt sound good for a yard but after all we are in the COUNTRY! lol I love watching the animals and hearing the rooster crowing in the morning! Jay told me that he was thinking of getting some peahens too! I like them too! Not fancy like in the city but all country! That's why I like it! :)

My husband and I appreciate our neighbors across the street, Glenn and Nance Knudsen. They have such a beautiful yard which is always beautiful with a lovely lawn, great landscaping, and gorgeous flowers. Nancy seems to always have something blooming in her yard.
