Best Cheeseburger

Posted April 7, 2010

What's the best cheeseburger you've had lately? The topic came up this morning when we ran a story on WRAL about the OMG Burger. A California restaurant has a four lb. burger featuring 12 slices of cheese, a whole head of iceburg lettuce, two whole tomatoes, a whole onion, and a few kosher dill pickles. The Oh My God Burger is served with 4 lbs. of french fries. It costs $35 and serves 8 to 10 people.

I had a great cheeseburger last week at Johnson's in Siler City on my way to a wilderness hike near Asheboro. I also love Char-Grill cheeseburgers. Other favorites among our morning news crew include Jones Cafe in Clayton, P.T.'s in Wilmington, Cubby's also in Wilmington, along with 5 Guys and Sonic.

Your opinion counts!  Where do you go to get your favorite cheeseburger? Please comment.

"Try Mojoe's on Peace and Glenwood across from the Mellow Mushroom. They have burgers in 8 oz and 10 oz and they have a 1 pound one that if you eat it all they put your picture on the wall. I'm not brave enough to try that, but I have friends who have done it more than once."

One pound? That's all?! Going there this weekend. I think Red Robin's Hawaiian Burger might be one of the best I've ever tasted. My favorite is still 5 Guys though. Can't beat those fries!

There's a place in Carrboro called Acme's. They use to have an American Koby burger for $13, but it's been replaced with local grass fed. Still an amazing burger, and they'll cook it any way you like it, or maybe even not at all.

By Far Fat Daddy's on Glenwood Ave. Best bun and burger in town! They have not been there for 25 years for nothing!!!

Sometimes chains are unavoidable. In that case, 5 Guys the best choice, followed by Backyard.

Best burger I've ever had in my life? No contest, at a TGI Fridays in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Go figure.

Hmmm... I am a big fan of Backyard Bistro near the RBC Center. It's fresh ground Angus Barn beef cooked to order - with either build your own, or some signature burgers.

I have always had excellent service, reasonable prices and the deep fried Wisconsin cheddar bite appetizer is AWESOME, too - with it's mustard dipping sauce.

Darn - now I am HUNGRY!
