How Was Your Winter?

Posted Updated

It's the first full week of spring but snow is scheduled to return to the mountains tonight. And what a winter they've had! A woman from Ashe County tells us she saw more than 80 inches of snow in the northwest corner of the state.

I drove to my cottage in Alleghany County over the weekend and spent several hours cleaning up damage from two ice storms. Nearby two feet of snow was still piled up along elevated and shaded parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  But I did find one sign of spring - a crocus patch in my yard. Two photographs are attached. I love crocuses. When I was a seventh grader I was asked to write a poem about spring and my father helped me by pointing out some purple crocuses popping up just ahead of peonies.

Before we put winter to bed I would like to get your opinion. How bad was this winter?  Tell us where you live and how much snow you saw. How does this winter compare to others?
