Songs You Never Want to Hear

Posted March 1, 2010

What are the songs you would never like to hear again? Maybe they’re good songs that have been overplayed on the radio. Maybe they are bad songs that rose to fame on gimmicky lyrics.

I surveyed the WRAL newsroom this morning. Here are some of the tunes high on the irritation list:  “This Kiss,” “We Built This City on Rock ‘n Roll,” “Every Breath,” “American Pie,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Hanky Panky,” and ”Achy Breaky Heart.”

Brian Shrader says these songs are like bad high school poetry with clumsy, clunky imagery.

What songs do you love to hate? Let ‘em fly!

They've already been voted for but Achy Breaky Heart and Beer For My Horses have got to be two of the worst. They lowered the standards for country music several notches.

    "My Love" - Wings

"Happy Christmas (War is Over) - John Lennon (screaming, off-key children are the icing on an annoying, whining 3|4 song)

"Gimme Some Lovin'" - Spencer Davis Group (every pep band has run this one into the ground)
Throw two more votes in for "American Pie" and "Achy Breaky"!

What is "Every Breath"? You mean "Every Breath You Take"???

For me, it's the Christmas song about that little drummer boy. I consider it a successful Christmas season if I make it to December 26 without hearing it. One year I made it till December 24 and then heard a disco version in the grocery store!
