Desperate Ladies Church Group

Posted Updated

Earlier this summer I received an email from a woman in Chatham County. The subject line read: “Invitation from a Desperate Ladies Church Group.” That’s what I call an attention grabber!

Mary Hall is president of the Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church Women’s Group. They meet several times a year at the church on Chicken Bridge Road near Pittsboro.

Mary asked me to come join "the desperate ladies” for a lasagna luncheon at the church and play some of my Celtic music and read some of the stories from my book Blue Ridge Reunion. Mary went to say: “Some of these ladies can be quite persnickety when they don't get what is promised.”

How could I say “no?” Last Saturday I drove over to Chicken Bridge Road and entertained the kind ladies of Brown’s Chapel Church. We had a wonderful time and it was great making some new friends.

Today’s question: what would you put in the subject line of your email if you wanted me to perform at your church or civic group? I will honor the person with the most interesting and creative pitch with a musical performance and book reading/signing.

Also, congratulations to fgump for winning the Little Anthony & the Imperials CD for the most exciting weekend. Please contact me at bleslie@wral.com with your address.
