What a Weekend!

Posted August 7, 2009

What are you doing this weekend? Anything exciting? Please share

I've got a CD hand-delivered to me by Little Anthony of the Imperials to the blogger with the most interesting weekend plans.

Personally, I've got a book signing and performance tonight in Chapel Hill at Carol Woods and then a trip to the mountains later in the weekend to beat the heat.

Statewide there is a plethora of activities.  It's one of the busiest weekends of the year in NC.

I'm intrigued by the Candlelight Ghost Tours in Wilkesboro. Black Mountain boasts the popular Sourwood Festival this weekend. Valdese in the Foothills will be festive with the Waldensian crafts show. I'd like the check out the Dan River Boat Race in Mayodan. Closer to home here in the Triangle, Debbie Elam and company will put on another fine show at Johnston County Community College - Let our Spirit Sing. The Clayton Center has performances of a calypso-flavored play. A fine arts festival begins this weekend in Southern Pines. A pirate invasion is scheduled along the coast at Beaufort.

Wow us with your weekend itinerary and win that CD!

Well, my bike ride ended up at 41 miles (saw tons of deer in SW Wake/NE Chatham County), motorists were courteous, we were safe, and all was well. My Model A ride was a little quick out Hwy. 64 across Jordan Lake, into Pittsboro. I opted for the Belgian Waffle and a side of applewood bacon at General Store Cafe, then picked up a day-old blueberry muffin that was fantastic! Also, purchased some marble rye bread (fresh-baked) for weekend sandwiches (even last night). The return trip was more leisurely (Moncure-Pittsboro Road to Old US1 through Moncure, Merry Oaks, Bonsal, New Hill, Friendship, back into Apex. 41 miles of cycling, followed by 45 miles round-trip in an 80 year-old Ford, for a waffle. But it was a good waffle!

Actually I am reading this in Florida. I am taking my mom out on a cruise. We will be sailing out of Fort Lauderdale tomorrow going to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. I have already arranged for my mom to be able to swim with the dolphons in Cozumel. We can't wait for tomorrow to get here.

I'm going to the Charlotte area to visit some friends and family for two weeks.

To Glomae: Amen about the Boardwalk Fries!!!!

I am taking my mother to my sister's home in Salisbury, MD. They are traveling next week to Nebraska for my nephew's graduation from University of Nebraska.

The drive to Salisbury is a nice one. We travel US 13 along the eastern shore of Virginia and Maryland. I love the quaint little towns dotted along the shore. While in Salisbury, I am sure we will take the 30 minute drive to Ocean City to walk the boardwalk. Love those boardwalk fries!

Returning home Sat. from a week at Emerald Isle.........then possibly off to Boone to help our son get moved into an apt. (though I'm hoping to delay the mountain trip until next weekend to allow some time for hiking.) Trying to make the most of these last few days before teacher workdays start--but definitely thankful to have a position to return to given all the cuts that have taken place.

I am looking forward to having the weekend to myself - just me & the 2 dogs in the house. My husband & 7 year old son are going on their 1st Boy Scout camping trip to the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park this weekend with 6 other boys & their fathers. They leave this afternoon & return on Sunday afternoon. It will be lonely & quiet but I am looking forward to it. I may go shopping with my mom for back to school clothes since it is tax free weekend.

I was thinking - maybe going to one of the Saturday night shows at Comedy Worx. Two of my co-workers will be appearing on stage and I could use a good laugh after a VERY tough week at work! I have a couple of inside projects to tackle during the day to stay cool. Nothing quite as exciting as fgump!!!
