If you were an astronaut

Posted July 30, 2009

If you were an astronaut in space what song would you request for the morning wake-up tune? Please give title of song and the artist who recorded it.

“I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher greeted North Carolina astronaut Thomas Marshburn and others aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor this morning. NASA has been serenading space travelers since the Apollo mission. Some of the songs to make the early NASA play list include “The City of New Orleans,” and “Going Back to Houston” by Dean Martin.

Several of my favorites to be played over the years include “Scotland the Brave,” “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong and “Good Day Sunshine” by the Beatles.

For more information on music in space check out the following link: http://history.nasa.gov/wakeup.htm and examine the pdf file chocked full of fun tunes.

If I were to pick one of my songs to be played in space it would be “Tall Ships” as in spaceships! That would be a thrill!

What about you?  What song would you choose?

my second choice is the toast song that the early group from wqdr used to sing in the mornings on the radio.

I like Bill's suggestion - "Tall Ships" but I think to get me up and going I would want "Life is A Highway" by Rascal Flatts. That song makes me think of my two grandsons - it's my oldest grandson Damien's "theme song" on the dvd his momma made for him of his baby pics till now! Cute!!! :)

I was thinking of three possibilites: Rocket Man (Elton John), Ode to Joy (how cool would it be to hear that song and then look out and see the Earth???) or Carolina In My Mind (James Taylor).

    It's been played before..."Beautiful Day" by U2.
Related note; my wife and kids and I tracked the space station and shuttle overflight last night, saw them streak by from WSW to S at about 9:04pm...very cool!

I think I would want Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach--really loud. And then watch the astronaut's heart and respiration rate!

Space Oddity by David Bowie. A gentle reminder that the shuttle was built by the lowest bidder.

"gIMME THREE STEPS" OR "fREE bIRD" BY Lyynyrd Skynyrd

age of aquarius by the 5th dimension. because everyday would be so unreal to wake up in space and not on earth. I suffer from a height phobia , so i would feel out of myself up in space. Probably very nauseated too.

I would love to hear "Start Me Up" by the Rolling Stones. Good way to start the day!

I think I'd want something peppy and fun like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You" by the Beatles!!
