Timing is everything in the mountains. The rhododendron, mountain laurel and flame azaleas were all in bloom over the weekend. I'm glad I packed my camera. I've left a few images for you.
Cindy and I drove up to our cabin in Alleghany County Friday. The weather was perfect. Saturday we traveled north on the Blue Ridge Parkway into Virginia. It's a beautiful drive up to Chateau Morrisette, a popular winery and restaurant just north of Mabry Mill. The crab cake salad was awesome.
We drove back to Glade Valley and then down Highway 21 to Stone Mountain State Park for a hearty hike on Wolf Rock Trail. I resisted the temptation for ice cream at the general store near the park and settled on a diet soda after the hike. We drove on into Elkin and had an excellent dinner at Village Bar-B-Que.
Early mornings in the mountains highlight the beauty of misty ridges. I love the layered look near Roaring Gap.
