People are always asking me where to take vacation. What's a cool place? What's the most scenic drive? Carolina Conversations attempts to answer those questions and others.

Basketball contest

Something is wrong when a famous fast food restaurant closest to NC State University puts up a billboard promoting only the UNC-Duke game on the same night as a key Wolfpack game. That’s what I was thinking when driving to work this morning on Western Boulevard. I know the Blue Devils-Tar Heels match-up is huge but State has a big home game tonight against Wake Forest.

Well, anyway, it is that crazy time of year in ACC men’s basketball. I’ve got three prizes to hand out this week.

Predict the final score of the UNC-Duke game tonight. The closest guesser gets the prize.

Predict the final score of the NC State-Wake Forest game. The same rules apply.

Describe your rituals on the day of “the big game.” The most one unusual wins.

I spoke with CBS basketball analyst Seth Davis on air this morning and he predicts an eight point win for UNC. But he also predicts a letdown over the weekend. Seth believes the Heels will lose at Miami Sunday night. Seth is a 1992 Duke graduate. That was a championship year for Duke basketball. Will the Blue Devils add another banner this season? Well, we should begin to get some answers tonight. I predict a double overtime Carolina win at the buzzer 95 to 94. What is your prediction?

Winners will receive a copy of one of my CDs. Maybe next year I can come up with a better prize like an autographed basketball or something.

Although I am a tried and true Wolfpack fan, I have to predict that Wake Forest will take the game: 79-64

UNC 87, Duke 82 - Wake 73, NCSU 64

This shows my true love for my husband. We are going out to celebrate Valentine's tonight (we'll be out of town with our 4-year-old over the weekend). We're going to a nice dinner & then coming home to watch the game! He is a die-hard fan, and I'm a big fan & loving wife. :)

duke 81 unc 77

wake forest 72 nc state 66

UNC 92-89

My game day ritual for all UNC games is to wear something Carolina blue all day. (I can't wear a UNC shirt or sweatshirt to work because I am a teacher so I do the next best thing!! If the game is on the weekend then I proudly wear by UNC shirts.) I also have a pair of UNC ear-rings that I wear on every game day. For the BIG game, I pull out all the stops & wear the blue clothes, shoes, hair ribbon, carry the UNC purse, ear-rings, a UNC pin, & anything else Carolina Blue I can find!! I have become a little superstitious with the ear rings because when I have not worn them this year because I forgot in the morning, we have lost!!

Carolina 79 Duke 71 - Regulation State 63 Wake 59 - OT

Well, just to try to win a cd, I will go with Duke 71, UNC 62 and Wake 58, NCSU 41. I hope I am wrong on both, my wife went to UNC (& UNCC), I went to NCSU (& ECU & Mt. Olive). Have to say that I love this time of year sport-wise if not always weather-wise.

Duke 83 UNC 79 and WF 88 NCSU 75.

UNC-76 Duke-72

Wake-85 NCSU-67

UNC 89 Duke 86 State 83 Wake Forest 79 I usually wear some kind of UNC jewelry and my turn it blue bracelet. I don't talk a lot about the game and if it is really close I will listen to Woody but not watch. My gut feeling most of the time is we will win at Cameron and they will win in Chapel Hill. Tonight I hope the best Carolina team shows up and the self destructing Duke team comes to play but not likely to happen. Never a predictable ending. But I am true blue from birth and went to UNC (a dream come true). I never missed a home basketball game while there (they were in Carmichael).

State will come out of their slump tonight and Wake will be the victim.
