February's finest

February will never win a popularity contest in North Carolina. The frosty month has been called Febru-weary. It is short but not so sweet for many people. But there are some things that I love to do in February.

I am going to list my top five things to do in February and invite others to submit ideas. Bloggers who participate will be eligible to win a copy of my book Blue Ridge Reunion published by 2D Designs last fall.

Here is my February Top Five

1. ACC basketball really heats up this month.
2. Hiking in the snowy solitude of western NC.
3. Finding a large stone hearth with a good book and a roaring fire.
4. Walking on a deserted beach.
5. Perusing pottery places.

I cannot believe that the return of NASCAR and the DAYTONA 500 was never mentioned!!

Never mind, I found out who was singing that song. For anyone interested that doesn't know, it's Brandi Carlile singing "The Story"

1. Valentine's Day (only if you have a sweetheart) 2. Daffodils are starting to sprout. 3. School is back in full swing. (no more having to entertain the kids all day) 4. The Circus is in town. 5. Abandoning that silly New's Resolution of dieting

1) Walking the farm with my mama and a plethora of animals 2) making clam chowder or loaded baked potato soup 3) a rare snow day. The last two are the best.....4) enjoying my soon to be 19 year old son's birthday on Valentine's day (boy am I getting old) 5) soon to enjoy my 14th wedding anniversary with my sweet hubby on the 18th

Bill, I know this has nothing to do with the subject, but I've just got to ask someone. Who in the world is singing the song in the WRAL commercial that comes on at 5 till 5 in the morning?

Um, I seem to see a cookie theme running through this blog.

1. I start fishing for shad as it's about time for them to make their annual run thru Tar River. 2.I like walking on the beach this time of year, Nags Head is my favorite. 3.ACC Hoops. 4. Visit my cousin in Florida once a year at the end of February, just so I can thaw out. 5.Girl Scout Cookies, my guilty pleasure.

1. Eating Girl Scout Cookies (thanks glass half full). 2. Hiking around the farm and forest to burn off Girl Scout cookie calories (and finding deer antlers that are dropped this time of year). 3. Checking on an ephemeral pool on rainy nights to see the annual salamander gathering that ensures their species will continue! 4. SNOW days! (on my top ten list of reasons I love teaching) 5. Crackling fire + good book, movie, or jigsaw puzzle (and hot chocolate, of course.......with the Girl Scout cookies)

VALENTINE'S DAY with a special dinner, ACC basketball, and 6 family birthdays - not much time left to do much else!!

The chocolate festival sounds like fun! Let's see: 1. Enjoying series that haven't gone into re-runs. Hooray for Sweeps. 2. Fireplace, cocoa, book. Nuff said. 3. Walks on the beach, finding great shells (why is winter better?) 4. I'm liking the pottery idea too, though I think anytime of year is great for that. 5. Going to the museums downtown.
